Buchenwald Plan
Buchenwald Concentration Camp Plan and ID Chart
Date: Circa 1945–1949
Location: N/A
Medium: Printed facsimile map with diagrammatic panels
Collection: Yavneh Klos Collection, Holocaust Archive
This four-panel facsimile reproduces a Nazi-issued plan of
KZ Buchenwald, one of Germany’s largest concentration camps. The front depicts
a prisoner uniform with a red triangle and number 62447, identifying the wearer
as a political prisoner. The reverse presents the SS classification system of
prisoner badges, while an accompanying regional map traces over 60 Buchenwald
subcamps used for forced labor. When unfolded, the central map details the
internal layout of the camp, including barracks, crematoria, and SS facilities.
Produced shortly after the war, this facsimile likely served as a visual aid
for the Nuremberg Trials, postwar Soviet tribunals, and educational exhibits. A
similar example is preserved at the Krasnogorsk Archive, now part of the
Russian Victory Museum system, which helped document Nazi atrocities through
collected materials and testimony.
