Nazi Hel SS
Nazi Hel SS by Willem van de Poll – Photographic Record of Nazi Atrocities
Date: 1945
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Medium: Spiral-bound photobook
Collection: Yavneh Klos Collection, Holocaust Archive
This harrowing photobook, compiled by Dutch photographer
Willem van de Poll, presents 26 stark images of liberated concentration camps
including Bergen-Belsen, Buchenwald, and Mauthausen. Created under the auspices
of the Allied command, it was one of the first published visual testimonies to
the horrors of the Holocaust. The images—unflinching in their depiction of
suffering—were meant to confront postwar Europe with the evidence of Nazi
crimes.
